.22 Enfield trainers with AM*** serial numbers
These rifles seem to be mostly built on III* actions from the second decade of the 1900s. The buttsocket is not marked as a .22 conversion. They use "Parkerrifling" conversions (they did a great job,the conversion is hard to see!) and are marked "Parker Hale , Birmingham" . Suggesting the conversion took place after the 30's . http://www.rifleman.org.uk/A.G._and_...rker-Hale.html I have heard some speculation they were from the Irish "air ministry". Is there any factual knowldege of these .22s ? Thanks !

AM
I have always heard them described as such, but never had heard the Irish part. Seems that I recall reading this in "the book", but can't recall.
Mine is a 1916 converted. My first from BDL
at the Birmingham show, some number of years ago. Still have it.

We're getting into the DP mark meaning Dublin Police again. AM is AIR MINISTRY. Not Irish or anyone else but the RAF This is because before the 70's or so, the Air Ministry, War Office and Admiralty were all entirely different and separate entities, each fighting their own corner. After then, it all merged into the Minister of Defence (or MoD).

"Lance" sorted it out for me it's a No.2 Mk IV*. Converted for the "Air Ministry"by PH
during WWII. The Irish suggestion came up because apparently the No.2 Mk IV* came on the surplus market with the Irish #4 rifles. I have no firsthand knowledge of this I was simply providing all of the input i had been given at the time. Thanks all!, RR30
