There are more Britishicon spec rifles out there than there ever will be SAAMI spec rifles. SAAMI specs are wrong end of story.

My question of "why" the 1907 Enfield head space change was not answered in 27 days and this post showed no activity for 26 days.

Now all of a sudden "someone" shows up after 26 days of inactivity (surprise, surprise) and wants to start an argument about the American SAAMI when the decision to change the Enfield head space standard in 1907 was a Britishicon military decision and had NOTHING to do with the SAAMI.

I'm looking for a British military textbook answer and not an agitator looking to cause more trouble and get this post locked down.

There has to be a logical explanation for the difference between the British military standard and SAAMI. The first word in SAAMI is Sporting as in non-military. It is my theory that the SAAMI standard mirrors the original British standards and that the British standard was changed one or more times. So to answer to the question as to why the two standards are different may tell you where the two standards began and how many changes were made.

I don't doubt that the British just changed their specs as more and more of their old rifles got beat into accepting the no-go gauge. They started with a black powder cartridge and rifle design and tried to convert both to smokeless pressures.
