Hi Jay,

sorry for the late reply, but i was on the way to the range.
I met them the first time in 1989 in Bad Tölz during a fun competition with some of our Soldiers it was nice because they were friendly and they showed us a lot of their equipment and they were all really great shooters. The BBQ after the competition ( we wasnt the first placed) was funny and we talked a lot of their service. I forgot the names but i remember that i had a interesting conversation to an Weapons Sergeant. In 1990 they stayed for a week at our barracks for having combat exercises with us. I served as an Mountain soldier in the 1. Gebirgsdivision. At the first day we had some woodland combat situations where we were the bad guys and with my Team ( i was the Teamleader) we were able to destroy one of their A-Teams, this was the good part, the bad part was that their machine gunner killed me. The next days was our advantage to know the territory gone and we lost more and more man against those extremly well trained guys. And after a few lessons in making traps i will know that i dont go into an forest that this guys had prepared. Later they moved to Stuttgart and i lost contact. I know that some of them were at Iraq. Last week i`ve seen a Docu movie of an A-Team in Afghanistan they filmed how they made their way thru villages and a road beside an Mountain where they found a lot of booby-traps after it was getting darker their Captain(?) said that he hopes that the Taliban will be quiet. That was wrong. They had some of the Afghanistan soldiers on trucks with them and one idiot switches the lights of his truck on and presents an Humvee in a shiny light to the Talibans and they sent a rocket to that car with the poor guys in it. All of them were killed. I felt bad about this with the background of knowing some of those nice guys of the Special Forces. And i was very angry and i am sure that i killed this a$$hole in the truck. Now you know my little but really good experiences with some of this great guys. My respects to all of them!

Regards

Gunner
