My late father served in northern Russiaicon for 16 months. A few years before he died, he wrote out his whole life's story from childhood until retirement. Possibly, I should translate this portion if folks are interested. He also served in the Phony War, was part of the invasion of Norwayicon, built Submarines in Hamburg (bombed out during the firestorm in Jul 43) was redrafted and went to Franceicon. Surrendered to the Americans after 8 May 45. Escaped a POW transport and was home by Jul 45.
