Limpetmine, you must have missed the PH5E/4 that went for $550 a short while ago, and one just sold for $350 (I know, because I was watching them agog). I may be (very) slightly to blame for this plethora of PH5E/4s appearing on Ebay at the moment as several people I talked to when I was looking for one said they would put theirs up for sale on Ebay if I wasn't interested in buying. I'm really glad I got mine for about $275, including the correct 6 aperture eye piece and fixing screws.
I wonder what would be a reasonable ball park figure for an AJ Parker TZ 4/47 with the single hole rimbell eye-piece? I might be putting one on Ebay in the very near future.

This one on ebay made £360 and didn't even have the 6 hole eyepiece.
Ebay #230452220531
Over the last 12 months ebay Parker Hale sight prices have shot up. It is not unusual to see PH5Cs making over £200 now. £180 - £200 is the norm.
PH5As dont seem to have the interest, prices are pretty much in line with 12 months ago.
AJP 4/47s seem to be priced 10%-15% above PH5Cs.
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

Any truth to the comment that they were made for the Enforcers only? Surely more must have been made.

PH made a 5E which was for mounting on Mauser actions, the 5E/4 had a different mounting system to allow it to be used on a No4 action.
As far as I know it was only used on the Enforcer as the mounting bracket / position meant that you could not use a standard 'safety'. If using the PH5E/4 then you MUST use an Enforcer (shortened) safety.
How do I know : I built an Enforcer clone and couldnt activate the safety - it was locked in the 'off' position.

The Parker Hale 5E/4 was designed for the Enforcer. It will fit any No4 with the safety removed (not recommended) however it was marketed by PH for use on No4 target rifles. This sight should not be confused with the 5E sight that as deveolped for Mausers, Parker Hale 1200's etc.
Item 230452220531 sold for 360 UK
pounds + shipping + import taxes. Used sight, screws burred and polished, blue thin on mounting plate. No eyepiece nor mounting hardware.
Item 230454854718 sold 230 UK pounds + Shipping + import taxes. Used sight, screwed burred, polished face scratched, IMO in good usedcondition however not new as implied. No eyepiece nor mounting hardware.
See a couple others for sale in the same price range. Need to bear in mind that these are no longer produced and they're a small specialized manufactured lot. What's that old saying " price will be what ever the market will bear".

I never used a guns safety, so I don't know how much of a must it is. Magazine loaded while hunting no round in the chamber till I am ready to shoot. Mechanical safeties can fail, empty chambers cannot.

Don't need to remove the safety just "disable" it as you cannot move it with the sight installed. I learned in the same way Alan did, building my clone on the Envoy, thanks to Alan for selling me the sight.

Apologies - lack of definition.
When I said MUST use etc etc. I was refering to the fact that if you want a functioning safety then you MUST use the Enforcer (shortened) safety.

True sorry for mistaking what you wrote, when you've slept little for days and worked on school projects all night, worked a 15 hour shift then going straight to building tree stands for another 12 hours and the driver asks you "what light is it?" cause they can't see it (entering the road going the opposite way so your in the drivers way for them to see the lights) and you respond in a serious voice "black" cause you only manage to focus on the green position as being off or "black". You need to get some sleep.
Or should I say I need sleep right now.
