It sounds like the rifle could be restored but if you are not inclined to do that then I think you might as well pass the stock along to someone who wants it.

Yes. If the stock is original and appropriately marked and if the metal parts are, as you say, all Remington and appropriately finished then it could be a candidate for restoration.
