They do indeed STILL make the Sterling. What a shame that the little Sterling company only charged them a £6,000 single one-off payment for the manufacturing rights. Maybe with hindsight, they should have just plumped for royalties...............
We had 4 Indian Sterlings in our armoury not 6 months ago when a cou-ple of companies of the Jats (Indian Army) were training here. While I didn't try interchangeability, they certainly looked identical and fired exactly the same on the ranges. You'd be suprised how few in the UKMilitary haven't even hEARD of the Sterling or even SMG's....., let alone used one!
They say that the Bren was the Centurion tank of small arms. If that's the case, then the Sterling MUST be the Land Rover. And talking of which, that is Indian owned now and is equipping the Indian Army as we speak.
With events in Asia as they are, I have to say that I'm glad the Indians are on our side..............
