PS, If I recall correctly, CMP
chronographed it at 1925 to 1930 FPS in that range. MUCH better than Aguilla! While I like Mag-tech, etc. it is nice to have a consistent supply of the same ammo, especially when it only lack 40 FPS or so of Lake City.

I fired about 150 rounds of Remington softpoints through my carbine (an Underwood). Two USGI mags functioned flawlessly (one of which was NIW and the other came with the gun). I ran at least 30-45 rounds through each of those magazines. However, several other magazines did not prove reliable. This included 2 used USGI magazines, 1 NIW USGI magazine, and 1 NIW Korean made magazine. So I am not sure if the mags that worked reliably for me only did so because I did not fire that many rounds through them.
When you can find the Remington ammo it is fairly expensive, so I did not have enough to be able to put more than 2 magazines full with each of the mags that worked.
I have heard that some carbines function reliably with softpoints and others do not.
I am wondering if the m2 magazine latch plays any role in this, because my gun does not have this.

RP JSPs are really expensive, that is why I like the $24 RP FMJs which shoot the same. AT one time I had 750 rounds of the SP, but unjudiciously blasted away oo much of it because I was too lazy to find FMJ, Now I am down to 350 rounds, and just use it in the "duty" magazines.
My Inland Racker came with a type IIA catch, but I put an M2 catch on it because I use 30 rounders. I was using a J and SEY splitback GI 30s with the JSPs and had no malfunctions from two full boxes.
Check your recoil spring and see if it measure 10 1/4 inches. When the spring starts to compress and degrade, softpoints begin to hang up. About 6 years ago I got a NPM that shot FMJ fine, but did not like softpoints until I replaced the spring with a new GI. It was down to 9 3/4" when I checked.
Also, buffing the ramp area below the chamber helps too. Parkerizing and mill marks on some carbines' ramps are pretty rough and "grab" the lead nose more. I used to buff the ramps of other Officer's carbines when I was an armorer/rangemaster.

Thanks, imarangemaster. I really appreciate you sharing your experience.
I replaced the recoil spring. I have not considered buffing the ramp since I am not experienced and talented in things like that and I don't want to risk ruining a nice gun. I have other guns I rely on for home defense.
I only use 15 round mags in the gun since I don't have the M2 catch. Also, I am thinking that they will work more reliably. I have had no problems with any hardball--Privi Partisan, Angulia, AM Eagle, Winchester. I was wondering if the M2 mag catch might affect the relationship between the mag and feed ramp and thus make the gun function more reliably with the Remington softpoints.
As you said, the Remington softpoints are expensive and also very hard to find. I found some of my magazines failed to feed them inside of 15 rounds. As I said, I have two magazines that have fed something like 30-45 problem-free rounds. I am not sure if those mags work 100% or if I fired more Remington softpoints through the gun those would choke as well. I don't have all that much softpoints, and the fact that one magazine that was new in a wrapper does not reliably feed thm makes me wonder.

Buffing is easy and safe. If you get an emery impregnated rubber 1/4" diameter bit for a dremel, it will buff with light touch and effort, but not remove too much metal. The object is to make it bright, not take off metal. Find a friend that is a competition pistol shooter, as they do it to their ramps. I did 150 feed ramps on S&W 9mms for the department one time. I was actually thinking of doing my Racker, but it is 100%, so I left it alone. Also, sometimes the bottom edge of the ramp is sharp, and can catch the edge of the soft point. A slight breaking of that edge (1/64th or less) in an angle can help.

Thanks, but I have never buffed anything in my life or used a dremmel on a gun. I would have to start by messing up a 1943 or 1944 Underwood(I don't remember the exact year it is in the safe.
