Front Sight loose
On my NPM Carbine that I acquired a couple of weeks ago, I just noticed that the front sight is a bit loose. When shoved rearward, it locks tight with no side-side movement at all. But if you pull it forward, it moves maybe 1/32-1/16 inch and will rotate side-side around the barrel. What corrective action should I take to fix the sight in the rearmost position. Stake it? Would prefer the method that an armourer would most likely have used. This is a shooter that I bought for CMP
competition, so the sights are critical.

I would remove it first and check the condition of the keyway and key. If the key needs replaceent, the do it then. If it is still loose, then stake the keyway with the sight in place.
When they tell you to behave, they always forget to specify whether to behave well or badly!
