Thanks for all the ideas. I did intend to fill the case with sand. How can I use a dummy shell when I have the real thing ?...I hope to post a photo when finished...next project...what to do with an 8 inch projectile?...(now be nice...)

IS IT LIVE? Find some Mechanical Engineers (note: not Civil Engineers) Mechanical Engineers build weapons...Civil Engineers build targets.

Question Number Two: Where is the Liberal Party Headquarters located?

Well, lets get a bit more serious. On most 8 inch guns, the projectile is loaded first, followed by a couple of powder bags, then a primer is inserted into the firing mechanism. You might see if you could find a clear tube that the 8 incher would fit into, make up a couple of dummy powder bags, insert the bags and round into the tube and BOLT IT TO A WALL. If it ever fell over, it could spoil your whole day if it landed on you.

If you can not find a clear tube the 8 inch will fit into, you could take an 8 inch plastic tube used for plumbing and section it to show the contents. Thin flexible plexiglass is available at anyone who repairs windows.

Alternately, you could mount it on a wooden base, with the dummy powder bags beside it. Make sure you show a picture of the gun, preferably firing, in a frame near the display.

That's a couple of suggestions, (Three if you include the Liberal idea). I guess it depends upon what space you have.
