You can put the spring in and the ejector on top and proceed. The ejector will pop in when the whole thing is compressed. I doubt that it makes any difference in function either way. If you've decided to use some stronger Wolf springs, that may also be an issue. I got one of their kits and few if any springs were even close to the originals. I wound up using exactly one, the recoil slide spring. They appeared to be just a sack of close matched commercial springs and a reasonable solution to a no-existent problem. $14 wasted.Information
