They are fairly rare here in the US. 30 round L1A1 mags are somewhat more common, but AFAIK the L4A1 Mags are not.
Saying that, I have 2 full chests for my L4A3.............
The greatest LMG to ever see service in the British Army...........................

I paid £25 ($40) for one L4A1 magazine last January. Probably slightly high for a UK
price, but I was after one and I hadn't seen many for sale.

£25 is a good price, some dealers are asking £30-£35 at the moment.

I couldn't quite see nor tell whether the mags were the very early ones for the FN and L4A1 or the big nose mags for the L1A1 rifle and L4 Bren. Maybe it's just my eyesight.
There was an EMER modification of miscellaneous instruction where you could insert a wooden spacer into the lid of the old .303" mag box to hold the 7.62mm magazines firmly in place.

I know nothing about Brens or the other ones the forum had mentioned. However, I have a metal chest full of used mags and cosmoline
.
One is marked II*, M/117, and on the bottom, I*JI. Approximate length is 81/2 inches and takes both the .303 and the .308
These are not what there are talking about?

Your talking about the .303 curved mags, you maybe able to push .308/7.62mm rounds into the mag but they wouldn't feed correctly and I doubt you would get 28 rounds in. The L4 mags are straighter looking mags (Due to the rimless round) and the earlier FN type mags Peter refers to are very rare.

Thank you. You cleared that up for me. I never thought about rimmed versus non rimmed mags. I will remember that. Also that metal bren box in that closed auction is just like mine.
Any idea about the markings on my Bren mags? Also, is there anyway the quickly ID the other mags we were talking about? I see a lot of unknown mags in some of the rural auctions I go to.

II*, M/117 = Mark 2 (modified) magazine shell made by Hercules Cycle & Motor Company Ltd.
I*JI = Mark 1 (modified) magazine top plate made by John Inglis of Toronto Canada
.
I too would like to see a 'master list' of Bren magazine manufacturers and markings, if such a thing exists.
PS. I'm still after an 'HCM' marked magazine top plate.

It was at Stoneleigh and only one dealer there had any. It was sort of purchased as a 'memento' of the L4A4 or L4A3 I doubt I will ever own. I also purchased a Sterling magazine for the same slightly sentimental reason.
I shall be going again this Sunday with a friend who's after a reasonable deact Bren and wants to get one before the prices go berserk.
