Anything is possible I suppose. They are few and very, very far between though. Hum, is the $50K offer still out there for a new, in the crate WWII jeep???

Yes, CMP
did bring back many new, unissued Garands. They are around.

In the summer of 07 I saw a new SA/ NFR that had come out of the CMP
some time before - not a mark on it - quite a gem

CMP Unissued
I saw them while at the South Store a few months back. I would actually prefer the Correct or Collector grades to the unissued. They looked VERY VERY Dry ( The stocks). I cant imagine it a good thing for the stocks to have had NO attention, over 50 plus years, to be a good thing.

My guess would be they are not new since they are in cosmo.I f they were new I would think they would be wrapped with no cosmo and the cosmo ones would be rearsenaled ones.Just a guess on my part,I could be wrong. If your buddy decides to buy one I would check it out very closely first

yes the presence of heavy cosmoline
seems to indicate rebuilds. But if they can be had for much reduced price and i'm not picky when it comes to surplus garands. as long as they are below surplus prices. If we find a gem or two then tat much the better.

I was a volunteer at the CMP
about 5-6 years ago and was involved with uncrating and serializing some of the Garands returned from Greece. In some crates there were rifles still in the wrap just as they left the factory. I'd count those as "new, never issued".
