Based on serial numbers, the M97 COULD be a real riot.
The M12 is way over the range, and is not a military gun.

If both guns have "Full" marked barrels, then they started out as long barreled shotguns. Someone cut the barrels down to riot length.
Photos of the marks would help determine if they are real.

I went to look at them again with a loop to see the dates under the barrels. The Model 97 has a 51 with an R below it. The Model 12 has a 52. The 12 has a 43 deeply struck next to the Full on the barrel.
Again, both models have the ordnance bomb and matching numbers???.....Confusing to me. Pics would definitely help, but they are at a Pawn shop. I might just go ahead and take a camera up there. The worst they can say is No. Which is where I am at anyway.
Thanks again,
Huck

If the M12 barrel is marked full, it is NOT an original riot gun.
The 97 should have a barrel dated 40 or 41.

Just re-read the first post. 97 is also marked full.
Both are humpers. Stay far away.

Is it possible that these were post war conversions for Govt agency, Prison guard, State, or Commercial, etc use?? Especially,
With the Model 12 having the USPS stamp in the receiver and stock? The 12 having the Full marked barrel then struck CYL????
And I know pics would help.... Any thoughts on post war conversion for Commercial/civilian or Govt use???? Especially, if these were surplus.....
Thanks,
Huck

ABSOLUTELY NOT
The Govt did not officially convert any M97 shotguns, they were considered surplus.
Mod 12 shotguns were converted - to trenchguns.
BUT, your M12 serial is way too high for WWII. It is a total humper.
Run, don't walk away from those guns. Save your money for the real deal.

Thank you scosgt.
I found myself wanting them to be Military, but I went ahead and walked away today. So, I think I will wait to find another or save my money for an original.
God Bless
