M2 Carbine Information needed
I'm trying to find some information on the M2 carbine, did one company make these or convert these? How do you know if you're getting a real one? Are these faked like many of the M1
carbine reproduction parts?
I think it would be nice to own one. Thanks

If I recall, Winchester and Inland both made M2s, with M2 markings at the end of the war. Many others were converted after the war and left with M1
markings. You can buy a NFA registered M2 or a registered M2 parts kit, and pay the $200 tax stamp. You can also get all of the M2 specific parts separately, but to have them all is a felony. M2 parts are: trigger housing, sear, disconnector block, lever, switch, spring, slide, hammer. M2 hammers, trigger housing, sear, and slides can be used in M1s as long as no other parts are there.
I have fired M2s, and I like them better than MP5s and UZIs, etc.

Inland and Winchester made them originally.
There was a kit to convert them also.

WWII USGI UNDERWOOD M2 .30 CARBINE BY ROCK ISLAND ARMORY.... THIS IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF A WWII VINTAGE M2 REGISTERED RECEIVER CARBINE IN EXC CONDITION.... THE FIREARM HAS A NICE METAL FINISH, CLEAN/BRIGHT BORE, EXC CONDITION MECHANICALS AND A GREAT LOOKING M2 "POT BELLY" STOCK.... THIS IS AN M2 OVER-STAMPED USGI WII FIREARM WHICH IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TELL IT WAS AN "OVERSTAMP"..... THE M2. .30 CARBINES ARE NICE SMOOTH SHOOTING GUNS AND WITH THE LIGHT .30 CARBINE ROUND HAVE LITTLE RECOIL IN FULL AUTO.... IF YOU ARE IN THE MARKET FOR AN M2 GI CARBINE THEN THIS GUN SHOULD FIT THE BILL.... ANOTHER MACHINE GUN PURCHASED FROM A LOCAL COLLECTOR FRIEND WHO USED THE SALE TO PURCHASE A 2ND HOME.... COMPLETE WITH 15 AND 30 ROUND MAGAZINES

The forbidden 7 parts to have together are actually hammer, disconnector, disconnector plunger, disconnector spring, disconnector lever, selector lever, selector spring.

Underwood never made an M2. That appears to be one of the many that were converted to M2 by the military about the Korean war time frame. Many were over stamped with a 2 over the 1 and some were not stamped at all.

I've often wondered. If you purchase a "registered" 7 part kit, and pay the $200 tax, can you legally assemble the weapon yourself? Or, would a Class III shop be required to do it? Also, as an intensive background check is required, I assume you could not take possession of the kit before that was done and the tax paid. Can someone outline the steps, in order, to legally convert an M1
,or acquire an M2? TIA.
