Just check out the thread about trigger guard collar / bushing as well - have you got one in place ?
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

Thanks for your help guys.
Really appreciate it demo.

I found that thread thanks. As far as i can remember the bushing is there, its just the screw thats in it is longer than the normal screw, so i think that its just bottoming out before it can tighten.
Another question, this rifle has had a H barrel put in it (i'd say in the 50's cause of the Motty range sight) so obviously the rear site screw etc is missing from the forestock BUT the other screw thats normally there near the band is missing too......should that be there with a H barrel installed?
Thanks again!

That would be the inner barrel band screw and it's probably not present because it's been heavy barreled.

Hi Pablo in Aussie, H barrels don't require that inner floating band thats on the no1 mk3 barrel as the H's don't need the same damping, however they will pop up on rifles from time to time, sometimes just to block the hole and keep the rifle looking correct. Its not a must have.
It sounds like your main screw is missing its lock washer, I've just been through this, removing that washer is enough to cause the screw to bottom out in the hole. The correct screw for your rifle should have a domed head, compared to a no4 which has all flat headed screws. ps Be careful when tweaking the main screw, they're strong but brittle and snap off quite easily under side pressure, I found, lol. Many time I've taken out the main screw and they seem to have no lock washer, its because they usually get stuck inside the trigger guard and stay there, they are supposed to have one.
and a ps, for anything enfield look into The best Lee Enfield Rifle site; 150 links, 600 images, video library, more., enfields are taking over the world, more webs sites every year, lol

Thanks guys,
explains why the screw is missing.
I'll have a good look at her over the weekend and see if that lock washer is missing. The screw thats in it has a flatter head than the ones in my other no 1's. So its suss.
I've only owned enfields for about 3 years now (been in love with them since i was a kid though) so im a newbie when it comes to tinkering around with the bits and pieces. So i appreciate the info guys.
