What’s your Lee Enfield Holy Grail?

Like many other collectors here, my Holy Grail would of course be a N°4 MKI (T); even better if it was in its original transfer case. Truthfully, I'd settle for a nice No. 5 Jungle Carbine.

I think I purchased your "settle for" grail a few days ago to keep my first Enfield company. My limited knowledge on the subject (improved with each visit to this site) makes an informed "holy grail" choice based on rarity etc.. impossible I do think however my "holy grail" choice would be any Enfield with providence of some kind, a known history beyond that that I can only imagine while holding/ shooting one of unknown legacy and travels.
That said I believe each to be in its one way a "holy grail" and will procede accordingly as oppertunity and dollars allow.

Mighty fine looking No. 5 you bought. May I ask what year it was manufactured? I hope to "find" mine by this summer; want it to be a '44 or '45 to fit with my WW II collecting habbit.

September 1946. I am glad I knew what the flash hider was when I spotted it slung on the guys sholder at the local gun show. Rolled the dice and did pretty well it seems. Just hope I did not use up my good luck reserve for 2012.

I know exactly what you mean. I was at a friends house just after Christmas and saw a flash supressor peeking out from one of his gun racks; it was a 1946 or 1947
No. 5. Sad thing is this was his "everyday rack, he had his "good" guns in a safe. Offered to buy it, but he said no. I keep making offers; some day he'll crack!

A coworker got me hooked by selling me a Mosin Nagant that he had laying around. Got on line and found it was Finnish and so much information was avaliable I was hooked. It makes me a bit sick remembering all the shotgun news adds with milsurps at bargin prices just a few years ago. Oh well. Two years in ,collection to date.

I started my collection with a Lithgow No1 MkIII* all matching made in 1943 when I was 12. It was and still is my first true bolt gun love.
As for my holy grail, it was just a simple No4 MkII and I got lucky enough to get two of them about three years ago. One is an Irish Constabulary rifle that was full of grease when I got her. The other is a slightly lower numbered Fazackerly No4 MkII that was issued and still wears a faint unit stencil on the butt and has a replacement walnut forward handguard. To top it all off they were in the collection of a man thats known my whole family and was one of my inspirations to become US Marine when I was a kid, which I also did.
I also picked up my first No5 over the weekend, I'd never been interested in them until lately and now I kick myself for having gotten one sooner.
I guess I could be happy with good conditon Savage No4 MkI..............
