Information Needed on Enfield No. 5 Jungle Carbine

I have an oppertunity to purchase a 1947 dated No. 5 Enfield that is being presented as a Presentation Carbine. The bolt assembly, trigger guard assembly and magazine are either nickel or chrome plated.

Can someone shed some light on whether or not this may be a unique No. 5 or have there been other examples of this being done to No. 5's or other Enfield models?

While the carbine does look to be in very nice condition, being a collector of war dated Enfields, the chromed pieces just look a bit off to me.

I've seen them but could never understood the mentality of it all. The other soldiers or ex Soldiers reading this will all, to a man, be sighing now. We had a word for it. It wasn't bling but started with the letter B.............. bullsxxxt. The same bull manure that baffled brains! But we did stop short of chroming rifles

Yuk! It would depend on the price, but if it was cheap enough you could replace the ruined magazine, trigger guard, and bolt with spare parts from BDL or GPC (carefully fitting the latter). But you would need to check that the rest of the rifle hasn't been adulterated and is genuine.

I am absolutely amazed at the number of "pimped up" or chromed Lee Enfields that are surfacing in the last while. I think this is about number 8 in the last 6 months...!!!
Is there something out there that we don't know ???

Two or three heavily clrome 'blinged' No1's came back in a consignment from Basra. One was tagged as belonging to the Palace Guard........ I think the person packing them was having a laugh! I chopped two and gave the third, the best one, to Fultons - who also had a laugh! The quality of the chroming was cra........ er......, what's the word I'm looking for? That's it, rubbish!

I think we can say "crap" without offending anyone. Chroming is often done to cover over pitting from rust or corrosion, but pimping up an otherwise clean war veteran is just sad ... Remove the chrome, paint it black and give it back its dignity.(Well, that's my opinion anyway).

I have a No.5 Mark 1 that I purchased a few years ago from an importer that has the barrel band, trigger guard and magazine chromed. The bolt was missing, It was the only one in a lot of ten No.5's that came from the far east - probably Malaysia or Singapore based on some having the "FMP" mark and butt stock disks. I have read on the internet that these may have been in police or paramilitary service.
