    Not sure about Ermey's comment in regards to the 30/06 being the first smokeless round, i am very sure it was the Frenchicon with their "Poudre B" in the Lebel round that came first.

    Not only was the 8mm Lebel the first ctg adopted by a nation to use smokless powder (1886) it was the first to use a boat tail bullet in 1898.
    Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?
