Installed New Front Upper HG. It's too tall?

I just installed my first new, completely unused Front top HG. I sanded the bottom to achieve the fit with forestock, rear HG, and barrel. The fit is good here. The problem is that it sets way to proud over the rear HG and it looks like there is too much wood on the top. My questions...

Are these things supposed to be sanded on top to bring the top profile of the rifle inline? If so, are there any directions on how to do it? Do the rears need to be sanded?

Is it a really dark walnut wood set from Pakistan, the couple I've done with this wood had this issue. The front guard nearly obscured the foresight! I did these for someone else, and left it as it was (why mess with someone elses new, unused, mint condition wood), but if it belonged to me I would for sure have planed/spokeshaved it down to a more standard British and North American, like you see on every other No4 profile.

It is very dark wood, and mint/unused. I always thought it was Brit, but it might be Paki

Hmmm. No plainer, no spokeshaver. Let's see if I can do this with a belt sander....

Already got this one done, but I have 4 more to do if the offer to send them on over to you still stands.

It probaly Turkish Walnut - I got a couple of sets from ebay - dark almost blakc and the parts were made way bigger than the originals.
