Thanks for watching and the comments.
I think that we might have a different definition of "Garand thumb" going here.
As I understand it, Garand thumb is the act of the bolt fact smashing the thumb, which is in the magazine, when the bolt slams forward, crushing the thumb.
Others are referring to the remote possibility that some part of the bolt slamming forward may nick or scrape the thumb.
I'm talking about the real-deal, full bore, smasheroo to the thumb, Garand thumb.
I remain unconvinced that one can physically get one's thumb in the way of the bolt face as it is moving forward and chambering around when loading a Garand.
Of course, I'd be happy to video tape volunteers to prove once and for all it can/can't happen.

Bingo, this is precisely why I made the video, to assuage the fears of those who have stayed away from the Garand for fear of smashing their thumb while loading, or who have heard, and believed, the "horror stories" about Garand thumb, either not fully understanding precisely what it is, and why it happens, or having never had it explained carefully enough to them.
You can smash a finger handling any firearm, frankly, if you are bound and determined to do so.Information
