I'm new to working on my Garands also

For me it is my first experience with Garands...

the only difference I can see is the length of the stock

Very interesting!! If my stock was shortened, probably barrel centering tool is a bit too high..

Very interesting!! If my stock was shortened, probably barrel centering tool is a bit too high..

I don't know nobody else was answering so I looked at mine. Lower band is on same spot on barrel & stock ferrule is same so I think they are probably the same. My book says stock ferrule shall not contact lower portion of lower band. There shall be approx 1/64 min clearance. If I was going to glass bed myself I would want to practice with a beater stock first although I have done bolt actions that turned out fine.The Garand looks like it would be easier to mess up to me. I'll probably try it myself some day just because I like to learn to do this kind of stuff.
