1st Pattern Bren Cover or Lewis Cover?
I originally thought this was a Lewis Gun cover, was recently told its is a 1st pattern Bren cover, but can someone confirm this for me? C/|\ 1943 dated. I dug out my mk I bren, and with some effort it will fit very snugly when buttoned up.

Yes, it's for the Bren. The original version was introduced in 1938 and what you have is a slightly modified version introduced in 1940. They were made by both the British
and the Canadians. There's a long thread about Bren covers on the 'Weapons Online' forum:
Bren Covers
I was rather puzzled to spot some 1950's dated examples of these at Beltring this year as I'd assumed they'd long been replaced by the green canvas cover by then.

The cover in question is in fact a Lewis Gun Cover. NOT a Bren Gun Cover.

It is not a Lewis cover and will not fit more than half the Lewis gun. The cover in quesiton will only fit half way down the Lewis radiator and is way too small to fit around the body of the gun. The lewis cover was much smaller and was an action cover only.
The cover is probably marked MS&UL and the date.
It is a Canadian
Bren slip.
There is one much similar but has a pocket on the side and a padded "bump". That one is for the Boys.

I think the reason why guys are adamant that these are for the Lewis is because David Gordon's "Tommy" series of books shows on in there and lists it as for the Lewis. But unlike an online posting, you can't change a book when you learn better.
I have a number of these covers, and they are indeed a very tight fit. I have a few of the ones that Warren mentions for the Boys rifle as well....a much better fit on those.

It is DEFINATELY for the Bren/ or 7.62mm LMG. There is one for sale on Evil-pay at the Moment. Look under Daimler Ferret in the search engine on that site!
