ok now for the mistake. I managed to overlook the fit of forend to buttsocket completely, and I'll tell you why in a second. There is contact down at the triggerguard on both sides but it tapers into a smal gap upwards. I remember watching a youtube video a while ago from that (Australianicon?) guy who wrote a book about accurizing the Lee Enfield and he said that you must have even contact at forend to socket , BUT, target shooters prefered contact at trigger guard and a gap up top. I guess that stuck in my brain which allowed me to overlook it, untill I noticed the recent thread here about that issue, where the poster is now adding shims to back of forend.
So.. what now? Could having an ill fitted forend like that have caused the draws to become obliterated over years of repeated firing, because of a gap up top? Is the proclamation about target shooters true? The gap at top on bolt side measures .007-009 " with feeler guage and other side is about .005. I understand that uneven gap is bad but the bottom area has even contact. Any advice hre would be helpful as well.
