In the midst of all the paper work for moving, I applied with the ATF to move with my firearms.
I had a great deal of trouble navigating the ATF web site for self importation, they were very helpful and I have to say I received excellent service ( to a point)
While in route to the border I was informed that my EAL .303 Mk4 Lee Enfield was denied entry under self import as it was classed as war surplus and has to be brought by a FFL dealer.
I had to surrender this firearm at the border until I am able to prove this was a pure civilian model.
I sent many pictures and explanations that my EAL was manufactured as a civilian model and never was " war surplus".
I have reapplied with the ATF with much the same information, I hope someone at ATF actually reads the info I sent this time.
Meanwhile, my first trip to a range in NJ was to Range 14 at Fort Dix yesterday, I found it ironic to be surrounded my people shooting surplus Enfields of all persuasions. I rarely saw any on the
Canadian
ranges I belonged to. Its encouraging to see so many people shooting surplus rifles!
Welcome to NJ. Hope it all works out and you get your rifle back.

Welcome indeed. May I suggest you concider moving further south at some point? You will be a bit warmer and enjoy a bit more freedom in terms of firearms use as well. Good luck with the No 4.

Thanks to all for your replies. Its not so much the monetary value of the EAL. It was my fathers first rifle so it has a great deal of sentimental value to me.

That steps it up several notches. I hope you have a family member that could adopt her and let you visit if the ATF hoses you. I really hope the ATF concetes to let you take possession of that high powered high capacity "assault weapon".

Thanks. I will look forward to attending. Now its just a matter of finding a .303 and ammo/ components. Pickings seem to be slim in these parts.
