My Afghan 1917 BSA Cº Sht LE III.
Hello.
I´ve sent my new member introduction message several minutes ago.
Now I´m trying to show some images of my 1917 BSA Cº Sht LE III*.
First some of the original condition when I got it (with a 1917 RE P14). I got both of them in my last duty trip in Afghanistan.
The SMLE was damaged on rear handguard that had to be changed, had russian stitched sling. The whole safety assembly was also missing. there were also some damaged screws.
The P14 condition was worse. At first view the complete stock was damaged but it has all original stuff (regimental brass disc, volley sight, lower and upper band). Also had an afghan hand made upper swiwel and the sling was slightly "etnic". But when I dissasembled the stock I could see that also was a "typical afghan hand made" stock. All the metalic pieces where Remington original mfg. The stock was fixed by a green plastic band.

Now several photos of the rifles today ... sith slings and bayonets.
Sadly, this rifles had to be legally deactivated and after to have a deact certificate to get permission to bring them home...

Some more photos ...
Perhaps a 1917 manufactured rifle transferred to Indian troops in 1928? What about afghan crest?. Practically all proof markings are from RFI, but if some of you could give me a link to check the proof marks it will be possible to see its history ...

Thanks ezesar and welcome ...
Although not the specific focus of this thread, I thought this article might be interesting tangential reading ...

Hi.
Thanks for your welcome Badger.
I apologize if I´ve open the thread in a wrong place... please, if possible let me know where is the correct place.
Do you think that could it be a KP rifle? I think undoubtly that is a oriiginal one markings are correct in both rifles and finish is also correct nothing related to a KP.
Father Ted, the spanish arms law said, until 2011 july when it was modified, that a weapon like this will be considered deactivated by drilling three holes, same caliber of weapon, with a distance of 5 centimeters between there and one made in the chamber, that was like was made with care avoiding damage the wood, it was something really sad ...
Now has changed and it seems that law is trying to make collectors to surrender. It´s necessary to take the weapon to firearms proof house and cost about 300€ add to the weapon cost. The bolt will be drilled and welded or cut in 45º, firing pin cut, extractor took away, magazine lips cut and spring and follower retired and the barrel maintain three holes like before but with a pin that avoid its change. They finally have won to me, no more weapons to keep away scrapyard ...

Before you go down that path ezesar, just make sure that the new legislation/law is not retrospective. In other wortds, that it MIGHT not apply to non-firearms that are already deactivated to a previous standard.
This law might also be because the different EU laws were upsetting the government in England
/UK and probably elsewhere too. Because by not allowing other EU deactivated non-guns into the UK, it was said that this was a restriction on free trade. And that is a DEFINATE no-no. Asn a result, you can possess EU deactivated non-guns in the UK. They don't like it and will huff anfd puff......, but that's the EU for you! Oh, they say that firearms are distinctly exampt from these rules, but by definition, deactivated non guns, are - by definition again - non-guns! And you can't have it both ways............. Well, I suppose you can, as the deputy speaker of the UK House of Commons has been having for several years we hear today!

Hi Peter.
There are some associations trying to apply this EU rules in Spain, that a deact is no more a weapon, but new laws are much more restrictive.
By the moment there are something similar to your rules in UK
, a pre modification deact rules and post modification. Pre modification dects are not necessary to update to new deact standard ...
only if you maintain the items in your hands. If you want to sell to another, the new owner has to take to Eibar official proof house by means of the Guardia Civil weapons service to update to new law specifications. And there are permission to maintain it in pre modification specifications if i.e. my sons receive it as part of my heritage, but if they want to sell it is necessary to update... what to do? let them a problem or to sell the collections when you feel you are going to begin the last travel ...
Ok there will be much more to say about this but I think this is not the correct place.
So several photos of SMLE
Cesar.
