Great find! Nice condition MkIII's are tough to come by in North America.

    Thanks Claven,

I think i picked this one up just in time. talked the guy down to $280 about two months ago. He is now selling Sniders for $500. He says Kabul is nearly out of Sniders and are going for $400 in town. Can't wait to put rounds down range with this one!

Congratuations Johnny, that certainly looks like a genuine all-matching Snider. But please do not feed it anything but black powder! As far as metallurgy goes, this is a modified Enfield 1853 muzzle-loader. I hope you will soon (!!) be presenting a range report.

Actually, being a mark III, it is NOT a midified muzzle loader, but a new production snider (at the time) made of low carbon steel and not iron. That's why MkIII's are so desireable ans shooters. They also have rifling differences making them theoretically more accurate.
