An old shot out No.4 barrel they don't want. Maybe on that came off a No,4 and had to have a cut into in to get it off the receiver (I can fill that with epoxy if it would even show). This is for a deact display only at a school so as long as I can make it LOOK good that's the important thing. I have all the bits I need apart from the barrel.

I am not sure where you live Newcastle but if you are in the UK you must remember that a deact is only "legal" if it conforms to the current specification and has been proof house stamped. If you just assemble a rifle out of worn out bits it could still be classed as a Part 1 firearm even if the barrel has been cut and repaired with epoxy for display purposes, the deact regulations are VERY specific and if the rifle you assemble does not comply then you could create a lot of trouble for yourself with the boys in blue!!!!

That ain't necessarily so. Having a firearm deactivated to the regulation standard and stamped just saves hassle. Firearms that have been deactivated to other standards MAY be OK as well, it's just that they may have to prove to a court on an individual basis that they are not still licensable or prohibited firearms.

I would argue with that definition Buccanneer............ The ONLY difference between having a proof stamped part with a certificate and NOT having a part proof stamped with a cert is that WITH the paperwork, the onus of proof that it is NOT a firearm part '.....capable of.....' and all that is on the CPS/Police. WITHOUT the stamp and paperwork, the onus of proof that it isn't capable etc etc is upon YOU.

SMLE barrels in ratty condition, Si! No.4 barrels in ratty condition that haven't been cut, No... At least what's turned up so far.
