    Hey Paul

No I cheated. I know it's going heavily against the grain and that I will (and probably should be) flamed for it but in talking to my friend that's worked metal his whole life he suggested that I try using bearing sleeve retainer in the same manor. I used an epoxy to glue them in place for drilling then cleaned the area thoroughly after they were d and t'd. Then I used a ton of the retainer under the pads, on the screws etc. I cleaned the excess out of the rear 1/4 BSF hole and then mounted the scope again checking the alignment. I let it sit for two days then mounted the scope and did the bore sighting.

I have shot most of 100 rds through it now and it has not budged. If it does move, and I'm almost expecting it to, I have a back up set of pad screws here and my above mentioned friend offered to help with the soldering. I am not confident with soldering at all. I've just never been able to get it to work. I need to practice it a bunch though, it would be a handy skill to have.

Just for the record I did try to solder them there but I failed horribly. Easy way out, yes, and I'm probably going to have to fix it but I'm ok with that. It's a learning curve and I'm still just out of the gate.
