x prefix 6 mil garand
Hi All
In the winter 1995 GCA
Journal there was an article by Dave Mclain on these. He stated that
they seemed to all be type1 national match rifles. A friend of mine just acquired one. He asked
me to do some research on it. I saw it briefly Friday & it is in mint shape & appears to be a
type1 as in Dave's article. I am going to give it a good look over soon. Can anyone suggest
other sources of info on these? How about an approximate value? It is a gorgeous rifle, I would like to do an article for the GCA Journal with pics if he will let me.
Tom

Dave did a follow up to the Winter 1995 GCA
Journal article. You will find the newer article in the Spring 2007 edition of the GCA. I don't think you will find many other sources of information that would be as factual as the articles by Dave McClain. Dave does state in both articles that "both Type 1 and Type 2 rifles are found in this range and some have LMR barrels."
As to value, that will depend on the originality of the rifle. Does your friend have the DCM sales documents ? Though as Dave stated, 99.9 % were NM rifles, I am not sure how much, if anything, the lack of DCM sales docs would effect the price of an X 6 mil rifle. I would think an auction would be the best way to sell a rifle like this.

We're thinking that they were all T1NM when built, but that some got upgraded to T2.
