3 on the magazine
I just got my first enfield in a trade today and from what i have read, i suspect the magazine is not correct. was wondering if anyone could help shed some light on my situation.
what i have is a model 4mk1*
the magazine is the one with a 3 stamped on the spine.
I've read a bunch of threads, but all are too old to reply to.
any help would be greatly appreciated, as i am just learning about this rifle.

Compare it with these. The one on the left is for a No.1 rifle, yours should look like the one on the right.

All is not lost as you are in the US. They come up on ebay a bit, there is even an aftermarket one. There are also some companies selling parts...Numrich for one,
Firearm Parts Accessories | Military Surplus | Numrich Gun Parts
PARTS LIST - NO 4 Accessories | Numrich Gun Parts
One listed at $28.50 for a promag after market.
I saw a nice genuine probably korean era mag last month, think it was about $30.
I'd pay that again to ship and US customs might have stopped it

In a nutshell yes, it's for the early rifle and you want the late one. Fortunately, they aren't hard to find. I'd suggest getting genuine issue not an aftermarket model.

Definitely get a genuine issue magazine. Many of the aftermarket ones here are just pure crap that don't work very well at all.

now the question is.... does anyone need a mag with a 3 stamped on it?

Put it for sale on the WTS forum, and ye shall harvest riches beyond your wildest...well, it'll sell anyway.
