I actually like very much the 1889, 1891, and '93/'95 Mauser variants and prefer them to the '98 types. Hard to find in good shape anymore, though. What I do not like about Nazi era Mausers is the massive fakery associated with the scoped variants. My one was the center of some controversy, even though it has been well researched. (A Gew 98 Simpson rework for the SS before the war. Still not inclined to share photos of that one!)
The fakes out there **** me off. There's so many, especially for the K98 snipers. The other rifles( Lee-Enfield's, Springfields, Mosins) don't get faked as much for whatever reason. It just turns collecting into a minefield.
