    Surely if it is a genuine ex-sniper, then it must already have the holes? They may have been plugged, but you will still be able to see the correct position.
    The corollary to this remark is:
    If there is no sign of any mounting holes, then maybe it is not a one-time sniper.

    Assuming that it was genuinely set up with a PU scope, once upon a time, but the holes have been plugged - hopefully by inserting threaded stubs and filing them flush with the receiver wall - then it might even be possible to simply drill through the plugs and remove them with a broken-tap extractor.

    In any case, I agree with Aragorn. You ought to be able to do this yourself.
