The "Z" prefix was used anytime a duplicate serial number was detected. They are relatively uncommon except for the so-called "Z" series where a large batch of A4 s/n's were inadvertently used on A3's.
Highly unlikely that the rifle under discussion ever had a "Z" as part of the s/n.
I have about half a dozen examples where A3's were marked with the "Z" as well.Information
