hi guys i am new to this site i have posted in the krag.jap.mauser forums. i have been working on this gunsmith estate that i hauled away for months. what i have found in some of the ammo is there is military ammo that is corroided, rusty, bent side walls, smashed brass.
what should i do with it. this is ammo that i dont think would chamber. so what would best way be to disposive of it. would dropping it in barrel of drain oil work to make it safe. i do know some ammo can be taken apart to be reloaded but to me this stuff is to damaged.
thank you '
mike

Unless you want to keep the brass, the best way to get rid of old ammo is to give it to police or sheriff dept. to dispose of safely. Pulling bullets is best left to someone with the right equipment.
There's not really a fool proof way to demil it unless it's cooked by their ammo cooker. You could try a pail of diesel oil though. It'll penetrate pretty quickly. It's still not done for then though.
Believe it or not...Burn it. Get yourself a 55 gallon drum if it makes you feel better and burn it in that otherwise a camp fire will do. Don't believe me? Look it up. SAMMI has a training video on YouTube for Firefighters if I knew how I'd link to it. Small arms ammunition is harmless when burned. That'll get rid of it and you'll have a little fun too...
