Interesting S'G' Trigger Housing on Ebay

I see what you mean about that notch looking different, but I think part of it has to do with the camera angle. The WarBaby III reference listed by JimF shows that later production S'G' housings have incomplete or no locator holes at the rear. Also mentioned is that early S'G' triggers have a "notch" at the rear. I thought I had two of the S'G' housings, but just found one. I'm attaching the pics. The barrel date on the carbine that goes with it is 8-43. You could always buy it and figure out later if it's worth anything - that's the way I usually do it! - Bob

IP/S'G' have several unique features that the one on e-bay is lacking. JimF4Ms photos show them quite well. The bottom one is a classic IP/S'G' triggerhousing. The top one is one that has always puzzled me but no doubt is still a S'G' triggerhousing. They are milled on the side like SG housings but have all the other S'G' features. Almost like SG sent S'G' a partial finished housing that S'G' then finished milling. But I really don't think so, but I really don't see S'G' changing how they were milling the sides for no reason either. Now to the one on e-bay I don't think it is S'G' at all, it doesn't have any of the S'G' unique features. You can see it has been heavily sandblasted and I think somebody added the 's to the SG markings. The rest of the parts maybe OK. But no way would I pay that much for that triggerhousing.

That was my first thought but the spacing between the S & G appears to me to be wider than the normal 'SG' stamp and right for the S'G' stamp. The S'G' mark on this housing appears to be as originally struck - whether put on by the factory at the time of manufacture or by others after the fact. I don't recall seeing any S'G' metal stamps being sold in the past few years so I am inclined to believe this is a factory original mark - even though the books say it can't be. Also I can't believe it would be worth the time and cost to scrub a light NPM mark and fake stamp the S'G' mark. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Perhaps we will get some additional commentary after the auction closes. I hope so. ChipS

Here's another S'G' trigger housing on eBay that has good detail in the photos. Note the shape of the cut (rear) for the mag catch - pretty sure this is unique to IP and S'G'. This seller has had some "interesting" pieces for sale the past few days - many are referred to as NOS and/or with original WWII finish. Some are selling and some are not. - Bob

Very, but it only takes one buyer and that ain't me. BTW, what 70 year old carbine do you put a 'mint/NOS' part on that doesn't make it look out of place and phony? I'm pretty sure (but I could be wrong) that the Std. Pro. Type 4 housing he has for sale now has been around for a year or so. I have bought 2 Std. Pro. (ST) housings since I first saw his listed at then $165. But, he has every right to ask whatever he wants to for them. ChipS

Also look at the hammer very carefully. Sharp edges, the mark seems off too? Staining on both outer sides, which does not continue over onto shiny new edge of hammer...then the mag catch too. Does not look right to me
