Interesting S'G' Trigger Housing on Ebay
S M1 Carbine Complete Trigger Housing Type 3 | eBay
Anybody aware of any trigger housing transfers from SG (or others) to S'G'? Is this one a real rare sleeper? Any thoughts on the whole assembly? I have never seen a trigger milled like that one. The safety looks like it could be the real deal but from what I can see I'm not sure about anything else. ChipS

It looks good to me however it looks re-parked.

What I Meant Was....
I guess I should have been more specific. The rear wall of the magazine well on this apparently original marked S'G' housing is grooved from top to bottom. As far as I know, IP and S'G' never grooved the rear wall above the mag catch area ('flat wall manufacture'). Also, AFAIK all IP & S'G' housings uniquely had a tool positioning hole or dimple on each side near the back end. This housing has no hole/dimple.
I sure don't know everythig about this and that's why I asked for any information re lateral support to S'G'. Is this housing an unmarked lateral transfer part from (per Riesch) Saginaw SG, Inland, Rock-ola or NPM (grooved rear wall manufacturers) that was finshed and stamped by Saginaw, Grand Rapids? Any mention of this apparent anomoly in WB or CC newsletters or (?)?
I've been hanging around carbines about 12 years and this is the first time I have ever seen anything like this. That is why I thought it was very interesting and expected some interest and info/comments from tthe forum. Apparently no big deal. Things were getting kind of slow and I just wanted to stir the pot. Thanks, ChipS

You said, "I have never seen a trigger milled like that one." That threw me off a bit. I bet you meant to say trigger housing? I think the hole gradually changed into a dimple and then went almost completely away in later production. I just figured it was later since it didn't have a dogleg hammer - but also wondered about "transfers." Have had company here for a couple days so didn't take time to look it up in War Baby III. I've only had a carbine for about 11 years, so you've got me covered by a year!

It's missing another feature unique to S'G' housings at the mag catch area.

I forgot about the mag catch area - but I'm not too familiar with the exact IP mill pattern there so probably best I didn't catch it. No pun intended.
Re the trigger. It looks to me like the back edge of the trigger above the 'IP groove' is milled deeper than than those I have seen before - almost wrapping around the edge of the metal.
JimF4M1s
illustrates perfectly the flat (not grooved) rear mag well wall noted on every IP/S'G' housing that I have seen before.
I did not know that the S'G' positioning dimple (nearly) disappeared in the final production times.
I notice the rear lugs have been peened with some kind of a bar and a really heavy hammer (or press) apparently to tighten the receiver fit. I have never seen another housing peened like that but of course that could have been done along with the re-park during a later re-build.
I would still like to hear some opinions on what we have here. It sure looks legitimate and original to me (except for re-park) but as far as I know it never existed. Thanks, ChipS

Yep, I missed that - and it's not there on the eBay housing. Still need to look at my triggers, but know from past examples that the "extra notch" can be deeper on some - but maybe this one has been altered? Also, I'm wondering if the eBay housing has an ordnance bomb on the RH side - can't quite make it out, but maybe lost when reparked. Good thread, Chip! - Bob

Okay, the mag catch area is different. Good catch fellas.

I Just Noticed
If you look at the overall views of the housing from the left and right sides I think you can clearly see the difference in the back edge of the trigger above the IP groove that I referred to earlier. The left side follows the arc of the trigger from below the groove while the right side appears undercut some. Maybe just a sloppy factory milling cut but you don't see that too often.
Re the ordinance bomb, correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think they put that acceptance mark on all S'G' housings, particuklrly later in production. Even if it were there, all of them I've seen were struck very light and would surely be erased by the sandblasting this housing went through for refinishing.
Still waiting for the uber knowledgable to tell us if there is any history or possibility that this phantom S'G' trigger housing is for real. It sure looks legit. Thanks, Chip
