Bayonet for 03A3 and M1 Garand

I was fortunate to receive an M6 bayonet from a friend who had it on his M14 in Vietnam, and it is now on my M1A. Now I want a proper bayonet for my 1943 M1903A3 and my 1943 M1 Garand. I am looking on Ebay, and there are so many to choose from. I am looking at one from Utica Cutlery that has a drop point, but has the SA crossed cannon cartouche. I think it was cut down to 10". It's dated 1943. $115.00. I would like one bayonet for both battle rifles. I do need some advice.

That one will do for both. It's the right era and men would have been issued that for either rifle.

I bought one like that recently also marked wit the SA cannons. It is dated 1918 on the blade. I think I paid $120 for it. From Ebay as well. Oddly it will fit my Garand but not my M1903. I don't know exactly what the deal is. I have another, not cut down dated 1942 that fits both no problem. Also, I believe the nomenclature for the cut down version is technically the M1905E1.

I could not get the drop point I wanted. I put a bid in for a spear point, unsharpened, and dated 1943. Made buy AFH. Hope I did right. I will post pics, if I am successful.

Yes you did. Either one is correct for both because by then the huge equipment issue was happening and everything was available. Wish I could have stood there to watch and see if a unit got only M1 bayonets or as Mike says 1905E5 blades...or are they mixed? They wouldn't have cared. Now you have to get all the ancillary equipment...

Oddly it will fit my Garand but not my M1903.

By the way Mike, just take a look at it and you'll see that it's just some small thing that's keeping the blade from fitting. Just maybe a slightly distorted ring or burr on the bayonet boss.

Do you mean that beside this milsurp disease there is an ancillary equipment disease? I do like the right sling and bayonet, and stripper clips, and bandoliers.

Have you guys fired the rifles with bayonet attached? Result?
I tried it with a pig sticker on my Enfield No. 4 MKII, and did not like the result. Did the same with the M6 on the M1A and there was no effect on accuracy

You'll get the phone book on the blade plus accuracy debate...Peter Laidler published a few things here a bit ago about shooting with bayonets on and how it adversely affected things, I can't recall exactly. We shot with them on regularly and I never saw a difference either.(FN's) Maybe we just couldn't hit anything anyway...

And yes, now you need the correct sling and cartridge belt, clips per rifle, cleaning gear, grenade launchers...on and on...

The 91/30 Mosin Nagants were zeroed with the bayonet on. They didn't issue scabbards and the bayonets were supposed to be on the rifles at all times.
