My friend 'restored' an L1A1 rifle (albeit a very early UK spec dewat). I sent it through the workshop system for him and it came back looking spick and span, as per the usual MoD finish plus a set of almost new wood, found in a hidden cupboard. Then his idea of further restoration turned into farce when he had it sprayed in the shiniest GLOSS black paint and eye wateringly shiny woodwork together with a whitened sling that would have put a concourse Rolls Royce to shame..........

I think that he'd been on too many quarter guards - in the sun!

Pirbright probably did that too him, drill and duties course...
