    Interesting article.

The SAL self-loading rifle appears to have been set up for the No.6 Bayonet, not the No.5. The grips appear unique however, so maybe something else?

SAL expected to begin work on the pilot in January 1946 and have it ready by April. Soon thereafter the Britishicon changed their requirement to conform to the US T65 .30-06 round
As though the UK ever had the slightest intention of adopting the .30-06 round!

Probably another of those little changing specification games detailed in "Without Warning".

Do examples of these rifles still exist?

“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”

    Edward Bernays, 1928

Much changes, much remains the same.
