    The way they're staked looks like an extension of the screw slot. Use a small diamond point chisel to clean the upset material out. Works every time, doesnt look bad and all reusable. The screw tip enters a hole drilled in the tip of the pinion. No, don't try to pry it off.
    Could also select a slightly larger drill bit too.
