Their are many police L96A1 in the UK
, could the police have requested a different reticle?
In the Green Redfield's that were used by the US Marine Corps circa Vietnam, there were about a half dozen (thats 6 to the metric folks
different reticles that showed up in trials scopes.

I have only seen 4 ex Police L96's, including one a couple of weeks ago, and they all have the standard UK
Military graticle Marty. Thinking on my feet, I would say that by definition, an L96 - ANY L96 would have the telescope specified for the L96 as a matched, as-issued 'equipment'
I suppose the Police could have specified a different grat pattern on the basis that they knew the art of sniping best.

There is the other UK
L13 scope graticle that I've seen a couple of, it has a thick pointed post and thin interupted crosshair sort of similar to the classic German
Hunting/sniper reticule, the crosshair has stadia lines either side and there are also "height of a man" type ranging bars across the bottom. I was under the impression that they were used by the Royal Marines and others, I have one of these and would like to know if I'm correct in my assumtions, any info regarding what the stadia lines and ranging bars actually represent would be good to know, I've been unable to find out much in the way of solid info on this scope so far.

On the basis that the Marines use the same Ordnance procurement system as wedid, the same parts lists and EMER's and they all went through the same Instrument shops and Armourers shops at Bovington and or Warminster, I'd say that they were issued the standard L96. There were other grats for the S&B scope range but the L96 grat and crosswire pattern was a 'special' for us. (this is one of the reasons why we didn't take on another very good close contender). It's worth bearing in mind that the L13 telescope was just a militarised version of the bog standard commercial 6x 42L. Indeed, when they were new, they even came in the commercial box! So painting one green and simply replacing the commercial turrets with the L13 turret assemblies would give you an almost perfect look-a-like.
There were another couple of telescopes 'approved' for the L96, They were the larger L17 and ......... Too much information!

It does make sense what you're saying Peter, although the other two I've seen, as well as mine do look right, one was actually on an early military serial numbered L96.
Either way, I think they're great little scopes and I do prefer using the flat top post grat.

Yep, that's it exactly Chosenman :-)
Two L96's........nice.
Do you know what the story is behind them

Blurrededge,
The rifle with the reticle pic is an early numbered military rifle, no known history other than its last service owner was a trials and development establishment. The other rifle in the pic is an ex Bedfordshire police rifle.
