    I remember seeing Hmong mercenaries recruited by the US 5th Special Forces Group in Vietnam carrying M-14s. The butt plate was mere inches off the ground anytime one of them slung from his shoulder. I'm sure some of them were shorter than the rifle was long - at least it looked that way.
