1929 Springfiels 10-29

Is the "J5" on the top of the bolt handle or on the safety lug? If the former, it dates to the late 1920s and could be correct; if on the safety lug, 1918, and a replacement.

It appears the commercial rear sight was replaced at some point.

It is not mentioned on SRS.

It's on the lug and JB said it was correct. I'm quite sure the receiver sight was replaced at some point down the road. I love the Lyman 48S as it has 1/4 MOA clicks. Regards, Rick.

Hmmm... according to John's bolt charts, a J5 on the safety lug indicates 1918.

I thought the early J5 bolt, stamped on the safety lug, was a straight handled bolt. The one in the photo looks swept. ????
