Hardly a gun show goes by here without some kind of contraband showing up. Undocumented machine guns are the most common. Drop in auto-sears, suppressors, live grenades…. you name it. One guy had a nice StG 44. Another had a mint M14icon. And not one of these folks wanted to believe they had something illegal. When I told them they would nod and say other dealers told them the same thing. Then they went to the next table and tried to sell it.

I wonder how many of them are BATFE spooks trolling for suckers??
Here is S.C. you have to pass through an inspection area staffed by the local SD and/or PD before your allowed inside. All firearms are checked to be sure they're legal and not loaded then gets a zip tie through the action. (Judging by the bucket of mixed ammo on the table there must be a fair number of idiots showing up with loaded guns.) Packs and bags are checked for contraband as well. This includes loaded magazines.

Same inspection here, by off duty PD officers. They put the zip tie on and send them in. They don't ask to see tax stamps and an undocumented machine gun looks just like a legal one. The vast majority of machine guns are legally owned, bought and sold at shows. It's only when a dealer asks for the form or bring back papers that you can tell a legal gun from an illegal one.

I just assumed they did a legality check. Maybe not. I did witness a fellow a few places ahead of me being informed that his shotgun was illegal due to barrel length once though. Up until a few years ago I rarely missed a show in SC or across the river in Augusta, GA. The only time I can remember seeing any MG's, No.4 T's, L42's and such was when Brian Dickicon was still setting up at local shows. I finally quit going because the things that interested me seldom turned up.
