**PICS** of my first Underwood M1 Carbine

Picked this up along with an Inland recently. Both rifles had been in storage for over 30 years.

I don't think this one has ever been fired as it has none of the typical wear on the sliding surfaces. I suspect that it must have been re-finished but the parkerizing on the barrel and receiver have that original greenish gray look.

Thanks. Do you think the receiver and barrel have been re-finished? Is there any good way to tell for sure? I can't imagine that this wouldn't have been used since 1944.

Well, the one thing I can say for sure is the color all matches perfectly...and that's unusual. Normally the parts vary a bit. There's NO wear on a couple of spots that should show and I've done bags of these to look just like this one. This one was probably bought surplus and re- parked and put away. Nothing magic, just nice and clean now. Useable for the next 70 years.

The punch mark (firing proof) on top of the receiver, and right behind the bolt, usually would be bright and not "parked" over on an original finish gun. Very nice carbine you have there! - Bob

Compare the crispness of the receiver markings on an original finish.
