Remington 1903 Unusual Barrel Stamping
I recently got my first 1903. Upon inspection of the rifle, I noted a stamping on the right side of the barrel just behind the front sight. The stamping is sharply imprinted - "30:06". I have spent several hours researching and can find no evidence of this being done. I suspect that the rifle might be a foreign country return, that country using rifles with several calibers of ammo. The serial number of my rifle is 614xxxx. Any help or information will be appreciated.

My 1903A3 passed through the official Liège proofhouse and was officially proofed (2 test loads at 125% nominal pressure + control of headspace and critical dimensions), as mandated by law before it coud be sold in Belgium
. Proofmarks and caliber designation are stamped (in small lettering) on the left side of the barrel, just behind the front sight base.

Are you sure that serial number is correct?

It was a typo - on one of the other forums it was corrected as 3,14X,XXX
