[/COLOR] This just makes me sick to my stomach. Its illegal here for any civilian to own any sort of automatic weapon. Its also illegal to shoot an intruder in your home, even if he is armed. I've only ever seen and heard of uzi's in movies, and these animals all have them now in my neighborhood. Thanks for your answer, although I must admit I'm very depressed now.
It looks like a CzechVz26 submachinegun without the folding stock. Large numbers were given to African resistance movements in the 1960's and 1970's.

On second viewing I'll go along with that. I thought the same of the Uzi, butt stock removed.
It seems as though only part of the SA government's attempt to deal with the country's gun problem is working - taking guns off law abiding citizens and scrapping museum pieces.
Thanks guys, this may help us in a pvt investigation.
I must say that knowing all the criminals around us now have sub-machine guns is very unsettling.
