As an example my M82 has "BNP SP" on the barrel adjacent to "BNP 20T" on the receiver just above the serial no. I'll try and post a picture later if it helps. Of course the wording for the proof marks may differ over the years but I think "SP" has always been used to signify "Special Proof".

Gil,
Do you have anything for 1200TX / M82 receiver Serial Number R-00824 amongst your notes?
Cheers,

Thanks Gil, I think it was chambered in 243win when it left the factory and was a police rifle according to the previous owner. It is now chambered in 6.5-284 and I am the new custodian of the rifle. It is maturing far better than I am!

Glen.

Glen,
I have found the record albeit brief...........refers to an M86 S/N 01843C built on the 3rd July 1987 with no scope fitted shot a 19.7mm Group at 100 yards with 10 rounds sold to Highfield Guns, hope that helps entry 392 refers in the PH Bible

Waking up the thread : Re Australian
info - I finally found an x ADI employee who has original m82 list of changes/schematic before the rifles were retired. He is getting a copy. My issue m82 was one of 9 that I purchased in the late 90's before the federal laws changed all surplus weapons were to be destroyed or sold overseas.
I will get a copy of the schematic for you.
6 of the rifles were rebarreled and sold 'as is'.
P90657 resides still in its red lined hard case but with most accessories missing

"special proof 20 tons" stamped on them, so in answer to your query 20 tons is what he believes they were rated to.
In amongst the papers are some useful snippets of info on the rifle itself and the ammo to be used, (attached) but nowhere does it give me a conclusive printout on the above wording requested under that contract.
So Bills memory is all I can offer I'm afraid at this time unless as I wade through the records left and find something I will of course let you know. I am currently placing all rifles/pistols handled by PH on a spreadsheet to be able to search easier but it is taking hours!!!
If you want anymore infor from the Ammo sheet let me know as there is a wad.
Apologies about the Australian C3A1 Schematic it doesn't want to play ball and sit the right way up regardless what I do.
Just to confirm your two numbers came back to Parker Hale on the 2nd November 1993 R23292 and R29813 which are recorded.

It's been a good while since my last post on this rifle, M85 0299F back in post35! but it's taken THAT long to get it in this shape as life kept getting in the way but I'm happy with the result. I bedded the action last weekend and she's ready for some range work, hopefully it'll shoot as well as I'm expecting as some effort has gone into it and I think it's a damn fine rifle. I'll report back with a 100yd target when I get a chance to shoot it, hopefully sometime soon. The scope is a 12x42 S&B with 7.62mm BDC turrets 100-600m not sure of the bullet weight they're calibrated for but my max elevation will be around there somewhere I guess, can't remember the range of MOA on the turret the mo. I'll be shooting 150g SMKs, see how that goes.
Thanks again Gill for putting me on to Bill at Norman Clark, a helpful and patient chap indeed, couldn't have completed it without all those spare parts!
