Enfield number 5 Mk 1 Bayonet help

Not seeing many bargains in the No 5 auctions lately. Some look very promising but by the time they are done, they aren't.

I did watch for and finally win a second Arisaka bayonet for my Type 38. No one bid on it which I thought surprising because these have been going for $90+ pretty consistently lately. Got it for $70 which I didn't feel was too bad as it's in pretty decent shape. Probably an early war production. Has everything but the hooked quillion.

Freak occurrence tonight. Got on ebay doing my usual bayonet search and decided to pop in "jungle" with it and low and behold a No5 popped up at $140 with 5 minutes left. Wilkenson, WWII production, blade looks good, wood well used but complete. Won the auction at $159.

Had a computer issue and lost the listing. Didn't favorite it since it was such a short time. Did searches for completed listings. "Bayonet Jungle". It did not come up. Checked e-mail, it was there but bayonet was not in the listing, it was called bayo which makes sense for the low bids. But I did not search for bayo. Got lucky with a computer glitch. Haven't seen a legit one go for less than $250 since I got my first a couple years ago.

Fleabay has a common denominator ~ supply and demand as those that are savvy on the prices of the No.5 bayonet can hold out and get the prices as the supply dries up 15 years ago I missed a Lithgow hooked quillion with correct tear drop scabbard for $175.00/AU try and get a Lith hooky now for that!
So you have to troll and troll and troll to occasionally snip up a bargain or find what you need but be prepared to drive yourself nuts because the way they describe things now days you need to be a Sigmund Fruede to decipher it good luck with your No.5 quest.......

You guys seem to be the source of knowledge for Enfield no5 bayonets.

Does anyone have the dimensions off the bayonet lug? All I need is the diameter of the round part, length of the round part and, distance from bore to the bottom. Trying to build one to correct dimensions in case I find the deal on the bayonet one day.

Your best bet would be to buy one of the repros for $60 if you are looking for a temp. Then sell the repro. Seems to be a good market for them so you wouldn't be out any cash in the long run.

1) diameter of the round part: .370"
2) length of the round part: .500"
3) distance BETWEEN BOTTOM OF BARREL to the bottom of Lug: .777"

Be sure to consult a picture closely -- there is a curved bevel at the rear and a incise cut on the front that will need to be duplicated. I'm imagining you have a Sporterized #5 that had its bayonet lug cut off but still has the base of the flash hider.

Well, i knew that the had those cuts, but its nore really something easily measured, i figured I'd just have to file that away to fit the bayonet. Unless someone has the engineering drawing just laying around... Are the reproduction bayonets any good as a plain old knife? I've had a slight change of heart with that. I might be happier with a knife a can use and not feel bad about breaking.

I fitted one of the reproductions bayonets (~$60) from India, and the quality is pretty good.

The Indian repops are as aesthetically BETTER than the last Sterling or Hopkinson (who made them for Sterling) rubbish. Alas, the Indian metallurgy leaves a lot to be desired. But if you want something to look good on your Sterling sub machine gun or your No4 rifle, get an Indian one. But don't take it down to the bayonet fighting gallery............
